River Walk
One of the many things our 3 dogs, fondly know as the 3 Amigo’s enjoy is a dry river walk, so much to see and for them to sniff.
So as they are now getting older we gave them a lift down and back to the river just below us near the charming hamlet of Los Hijanos
We used to make them follow the car down and sometimes back when they were younger but we believe they appreciated the lift both ways as they are now between 11 and 15 in age, especially the lift back up !
You can walk for miles or I guess Kilometers along the local rivers, we went for around 90 minutes and always interesting to see local produce, like Lemons large and slightly deformed or tiny, both taste fine and neither would get on the shelf in a supermarket, I believe the rule of thumb is if it is on the floor then free to collect.
There was also a fine example of a Prickly Pear Cactus, a favourite fruit for the Spanish and due sadly to a blight in reason years not growing as prolific as before, but making a comeback and the following looked a lovely example.
Also they have started to collect the river canes, known officially as Arundo donax, stacked up neatly and can be used for :
- Energy crop.
- Cultivation.
- Biofuel.
- Carbon sequestration.
- Ethnobotany.
- Construction.
- Musical instruments.
You have to have a head for heights to use some of the basic metal bridges that cross the river in numerous place, I have tried once to cross with the boys but really not for them, due to the movement mainly.
We were back home by midday and didn’t see much movement out of the 3 Amigo’s all afternoon, probably dreaming of their next River Walk.
Just another free activity on the doorstep of Vine Ridge Retreats.
