Well what can we say stunningly breathtaking area. We normally travel around spain snd Europe by campervan but when we saw our friends house on offer as a holiday retreat we thought wed try something different. We weren't disappointed after driving most of the day from Bilbao ferry we followed David the agents instructions via picture clues as youd never find it otherwise an excellent idea. The welcome pack was nice even being asked by David preferred wine colour thank you david. David also recommended a restaurant in comares which we visited 5 times in our 2 week stay . The food was of excellent quality generous and cheap behind the local swimming pool with stunning views. It was lovely to see mangoes growing outside the gate of the property anf learned it was a mango and avocado growing region ..Comares was 15 minutes away and 2 excellent supermarkets in benamargosa 30 mins away. All facilities in the house and just such a lovey peaceful stay goats bleating on the hillside chickens clucking from below the hillside and watching the local farmer's drying grapes in the sun to make raisins. So much to see and learn about the region . David was always on hand if you needed anything a great friendly helpful host. In summary a beautiful rustic stay. Richard and Stacey.
A stunning villa in immaculate condition with all the amenities one would require. Amazing communications from David prior to our holiday, with detailed instructions of how to get to the villa and even asking what we would like in our welcome pack. Met up with David at the villa for a chat and took his advice on areas to visit. A very personable host that knows the area inside out and nothing is too much trouble. Thanks D and J
Lovely villa with exceptional views across a quiet stunning valley below Comares. Very clean, spacious and well maintained villa with a lovely clean pool. Villa is very well equipped. David from Vine Ridge Retreats is the perfect host. Available to give advice and help if needed, but does not intrude on your privacy otherwise. Make sure that you follow his instructions to the letter to find the villa as it is in a rural location outside of Comares.
Spacious, clean, and well equipped villa with beautiful views. A car is definitely needed, but if you follow the instructions of David - who is a great host - it’s easy to find. Definitely worth the visit!
For the second time at Villa Carolina this February. Another wonderful stay with particularly pleasant weather, up to 18 degrees. The villa offers all the comfort necessary to spend charming evenings in front of a good fire in the fireplace while enjoying a good meal prepared in the perfectly equipped kitchen. We will come back again and again. A big thank you to David for his perfect welcome
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Carolina. A super well-equipped house, located in a splendid setting that changes every hour of the day. However, it is 5 minutes from Comares and 15 minutes from Benarmagosa for facilities (bars, restaurants, shops). And what can we say about the kindness, benevolence and discretion of David, a truly remarkable owner. We will come back to it very soon.
Our holiday in Andalucia (17-31 July 2024) was our third time in Comares and in properties managed by David and his brother and the reason we keep coming back is simple - fantastic properties with all you could want, in quiet locations but within easy reach of Comares and its friendly folk, and well located to visit the gems of Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Ronda, Malaga and towns on the coast, awesome caves at Nerja .... there is much to see but comfortable enough to enjoy quieter days around the pool. (We tend to alternate between busy and quiet days, but its entirely up to you.) One thing I would say is, treat Google SatNav directions with a pinch of salt. On one occasion it sent us down a known dead-end (Google knew it was a dead-end) only to direct us to turn around and go back to the road we had just left!
David was very helpful with suggestions, local knowledge, and assisting with small issues when asked. Nothing was too much trouble.
We have no hesitation to recommend this villa to anyone considering Andalucia as a holiday destination and we hope to return again (for a fourth time) in the future.
P.S. Recently diagnosed as a Celiac I was at first worried about availability of gluten-free groceries and eating out at restaurants. No problem - Spain seems to have embraced the needs of Celiac sufferers better than the UK has. I recommend the supermarket chain "Mercadona" and most restaurants are well prepared to provide suitable dishes.
Ww stayed at this fabulous property with our 3 kids for 8 nights and it was a truly wonderful experience. The house itself was lovely, roomy and well-equipped with modern air conditioning in all the bedrooms and the pool outside was fantastic and kept the kids and us entertained on a daily basis. There are beautiful views of the valley and hills with day-long sunshine - this place is genuinely a paradise! David was friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The surrounding area is gorgeous and we would recommend Bar le Pepa in Comares, a 10 minute drive, for churros and tapas. A fantastic holiday property! It goes without saying that a car is recommended due to the rural nature of this mountainous region.
Beautiful week with my family at Villa Carolina.
Everything was exactly as I expected it to be. Lovely pool,
Basic but well equipped villa and views of the countryside.
It was the perfect get away and I really did NOT want to leave.
Gave 4 stars as I found the bed too soft but that come down to personal preference and nothing against this lovely villa.
